Internship Opportunity –Monitoring & Evaluation (MEAL team)

About the Internship
ZOA’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team is looking for a motivated intern to support the development and application of qualitative monitoring and evaluation practices. This internship is ideal for someone interested in participatory approaches to learning and evaluation, and may be tailored as a master’s thesis project.
You will help develop guidelines for qualitative data collection and analysis, train staff, and support internal research on topics such as social cohesion and conflict sensitivity.
What you will do
- Assess capacity needs among MEAL staff regarding qualitative M&E;
- Conduct desk research on recent trends in participatory, qualitative M&E approaches;
- Develop practical guidelines for qualitative data collection and analysis, aligned with ZOA’s existing tools;
- Train ZOA staff (online or in-person) on the use of the new guidelines;
- Conduct internal research on social cohesion: How is it defined and measured by different stakeholders, and how do ZOA’s interventions contribute?
- Contribute to communities of practice and webinars on MEAL and Peace & Conflict;
- Provide general MEAL support, depending on your interests and expertise.
What you will deliver
- A short report with findings and recommendations from desk research and internal interviews;
- Qualitative M&E guideline document;
- Staff training materials (e.g., PowerPoint);
- An internal research report (or thesis) on social cohesion (or other relevant subject);
- Additional outputs may be agreed upon depending on your learning goals and ZOA’s needs.
What we are looking for
- Enrolled in the final phase of a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Anthropology, Peace and Conflict Studies, or a related field;
- Strong interest in qualitative and participatory research methods;
- Experience with qualitative research (e.g., interviews, focus groups, coding/analysis);
- Fluent in English (spoken and written);
- Organized, proactive, culturally sensitive, and able to work independently;
- Motivation to learn about the humanitarian and development sector;
- Committed and fully supportive to the vision, mission and Christian values of ZOA.
