Supervisory Board vice-Chair

Are you the new vice-Chair of our Supervisory Board?

Plan International is a development cooperation- and humanitarian organization working in more than 80 countries, with a special focus on girls and young women. Plan International stands for a world in which all children can develop to their full potential and in which girls and boys have equal rights and opportunities. We believe that achieving gender equality is not only a matter of justice, but also crucial for bringing about lasting change for a more equal society.

With the support of thousands of sponsors, (institutional) donors and corporate partners, Plan International in the Netherlands works to improve the lives of children and young people around the world. Our Supervisory Board is a vital part of our organisation. The vice-Chair of Board has nearly completed the maximum term (eight years) for this role.

We are therefore seeking a new Supervisory Board member with the following profile:

• International work experience, including in the Global South, leading to geopolitical insight into the regions where we work
• Strong understanding and relevant network within the Dutch institutional donor landscape (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU, foundations).
• Clear affinity with our key thematic areas (gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and -rights, youth participation and economic empowerment)
• Awareness and insight in the challenging external context that INGO’s operate in globally.
• Ability to strike the right balance between supervision and involvement; can act as a strategic discussion partner for the Board and the Director. Prior board experience in a similar role would be an advantage.

In addition, all Board members must have the following profile: 

• You understand the role of a Supervisory Board and are able to act as strategic advisor to the director. You operate at academic thinking level.
• You are passionate about the themes of Plan International works on; a true gender equality champion and activist for change.
• You are willing to fulfil all formal roles of a Supervisory Board member, in compliance with the statutes.
• You have sufficient availability to fulfil this role well (four board meetings a year, one to three additional optional events and availability for ad hoc advice)

We are particularly interested in candidates willing to be involved in the international governance of Plan International through a seat in the Members Assembly and its Committees. This will take additional time.

Candidates must be proficient in English. Basic Dutch language skills are desirable. The Supervisory Board meets face to face. For that reason, candidates must reside in or close to the Netherlands.  

This is a voluntary role; Supervisory Board members receive no remuneration. Reasonable expenses made to fulfil the role, such as travel expenses, are reimbursed.
